How to Heal: The Link Between Happiness and Healing

In healthcare we focus on all the ways to keep your body healthy, by eating right, daily exercise, getting a good night's sleep and taking supplements.

And these are all incredibly important. 

Though sometimes, we forget the most important health molecule.  There is one thing that impacts your body more than any of these.

You might be wondering what that is...

It’s your happiness.

Being happy has the most dramatic impact on our bodies and health.

When you feel good, your bodies release warm and fuzzy hormones and chemicals that strengthen immunity, give you vitality and prevent disease.  Finding happiness is the most powerful thing you can do for your health.

I’m not talking about the type of happiness that is forced, it can be a peaceful, warm feeling inside.

I know this is not easy when you’re in the midst of a health problem or have been diagnosed with a disease, because it evokes a lot of fear, and I’ve felt that too. 

One thing it’s taught me is… that we can always find activities and moments of happiness during any life challenge.

Do you know what makes you happy?

For me, it’s firstly stopping the things that create unhappiness in my life – perfectionism, overworking and being too driven.

And doing more of the activities that bring me joy.  A beautiful lunch with a friend, listening to music, dancing, and slowing down.

At the end of the day, no one can do this for us, it is up to us to take control of our lives and make the changes that will make it the happiest way to live.
